Sutton United Football Club is a non-league team currently playing in the Nationwide Conference South in England. They are one of many football clubs in and around London, and are subsequently seen as something of a local club. However, over the years, a number of Sutton United supporters have found themselves exiled. In other words, they have moved far away from Sutton and are no longer able to regularly attend Gander Green Lane. The purpose of Sutton Exiles is simply to trace the whereabouts of these exiles in order to show just how far the club's support stretches across the globe. However, you do not have to live a million miles away from Gander Green Lane to be on the map. The whole point of Sutton Exiles is to show the spread of Sutton United supporters across the world - and it would not be possible to show this spread accurately without including all the local supporters as well. Some Sutton United supporters live a stone's throw away from the club, some live in neighbouring towns, some live half an hour's drive away, some a few hundred miles away, and some in far away countries. The problem is, where would you draw the line between a local supporter and an exiled supporter? There is such a spread of supporters across the entire globe that it becomes almost impossible to draw this line at all. The Sutton Exiles map is therefore open to all Sutton United supporters wherever they live. This way, we can see the worldwide spread of U's supporters in all its glory. |
